50
Tent Decorating Ideas (from Weddings to Corporate Events) Updated: May 3, 2010
I've
put
together a list of 50 various ideas for decorating the inside (and
outside) of your tent. Mix and match ideas. Start with a strong theme, then plan around that.
- Lighting:
We cannot stress how important lighting is to setting drama, mood and
ambiance to your event. Lighting is absolutely one of the most critical
elements and should be considered along with all other decorative
elements. For best results, contact an Event Designer or Theatrical
Lighting company. Take a look at this BrideORama video with Preston
Bailey.
- Paper Lanterns: OurWeddingPlus.com has some awesome paper lantern designs. And some nice paper lanterns here: RS2Guru.com.
- Votive candles: MyWeddingReceptionIdeas.com has some lovely ideas for using votive candles.
- Colored lights: There is some beautiful uplighting on the tents that makes an elegant statement found on TheBridesCafe.com
- Chandeliers: Elizabeth Anne Designs does a great job with wedding decoration ideas. I especially love these chandeliers.
- Satin or Silk Ribbons
- Tulle:
tie in large bows, wrap around poles, tie around chair backs, add large
amounts at outside corners of tent, hang large swaths from top of tent
to sides of tent.
- Large containers of flowering plants such as mums,
hydrangea, rose bushes or other shrubs. Or even arrangements of Cacti.
- Rolls of fabric (as a precaution, you should be sure it is
treated with fire resistant retardant). Or liners and swag from tent
rental company.
- Crystals or crystal wedding trees: Cool examples found at Green Lily Events.
- Garden statues or benches
- Project Movies or Photos onto top portion or sides of tent
- Disco mirror balls
- Bird Houses: Decorate with flowers inside, hang birdhouses,
install on posts, use as centerpieces or affixed to wooden trellis’
- Bird Cages: Fill with flowers, candles or greenery
- Birds as Decorations: Hanging from top of tent, as part of table arrangements, at food table
locations. Hostess blog.
- Bird Baths:
Set bird baths inside tent at corners. Place a small amount of water,
some river stones and set water lilies or other floating flowers in the
bird baths.
- Large Plumes (such as ostrich feathers): Australia Entertains
- Palm trees, paradise palm trees or fan trees: You can rent these from a nursery or an event planner can get them for you for the day of your wedding.
- Balloon art: A limited use of balloons can be nice. Too many
distract from the overall ambiance and drama of the tents. Here are some nice examples at BudgetWeddingPlanner blog.
- Branches or Grapevine:
hang high and place in large vases at corners. String balls, crystals,
birds or butterflies or string up tiny lights to the branches. SaveOnCrafts has a good selection.
- Miniature Lights or icicle lights: check out yet Another Wedding Blog.
- Glass Balls: either strings of glass balls or singly
hanging from fishing line.
- Hang Flags, banners or medieval-style banners from the poles
or wires.
- Hanging baskets of flowering plants
- Stars: Hang paper, glass or metal stars with fishing line
from the top of the tent. Here are some stars you can purchase and some here at LunaBazaar.
- Origami Birds or Flowers: hang over tables
- Strings of Beads
- Hand fans: Creative Wedding Favors
- Sprinkle a few elegant Wind Chimes just outside the tent.
- Piñatas: You can fine the much coveted "White Star Piñata" here.
- Printed Velon just the most beautiful and amazing printed vinyl fabric. The site seems to be under construction, but take a look at this example at AwaySoiree.com.
- Paper butterflies:
hanging from top of tent, place in centerpieces, fill large urns or
vases with branches and decorate branches with paper butterflies. Add
lots of tulle as bows, swag and chair décor. HostessBlog.com
- Tassels: You can order from A&S Imports. See an extreme example of beauty here at SpecialEvents.com.
- Pole Banners
- Floral Wrap the corner poles.
- Shutters: Use discarded, white painted shutters to cover
areas you don’t want exposed. Tie together with tulle.
- Rugs: Use oriental rugs, sisal rugs or all-weather
decorative rugs.
- Bushels of hay, pumpkins, corn stalks
- Antique mirrors: well placed mirrors throughout the
structures.
- Angel Vine or Boxwood Topiaries: decorate with ribbons, paper
butterflies, or tiny lights.
- Gossamer: here's an interesting YouTube video and photos on how to decorate with gossamer.
- Columns: decorative
columns can be topped with floral arrangements, lush plants and
planters or ice sculptures.
- Candelabras: these glass candelabras with floral centers are spectacular.
- Flowers galore: roses, hydrangeas, peonies, carnations,
daisies, orchids, sunflowers
- Ice Sculptures
- Street Lamps
- Penny Candy:
purchase large glass cylinder vases and place as centerpieces and other
decorative areas. Fill with colorful penny candies or colorful bubble gum.
- Picture Frames: take some beautiful picture frames or framed
artwork and hang throughout tent.
- Stone Firepit and some Ottomans for outdoor
seating.
